Zoo of the future
In this research we looked at the future of zoos. We have analysed the zoos from five different perspectives: the role a zoo plays in society, the care for the animals, the animal enclosures, current trends in the sector and the possible future.
Results
- Five scenarios have been developed for zoos: the “fifth” generation zoo, the business zoo, the design zoo and the functional zoo
- The preference of young people (a key target group for the future) goes to “the design zoo”
- Zoo education, sustainability and preservation are key focus points
